Amazing Remote Control! Harmony 880

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

OK, its not motorcycle related but this remote kicks ass!  Its a universal remote that you program with a computer instead of having to type in secret codes from a paper manual.  I have an old version of this sort that finally kicked the bucket, so its time for an upgrade!

Visit to the Harley Davidson museum in Milwaukee

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

I recommend this trip to ANYONE who is into bikes, history, or just American culture!  This is a fantastically assembled museum telling the story of Harley Davidson from the beginning to now.

Unfortunately all I had was my ultra-crappy cell phone camera to take pics with.  The quality is terrible and I could have taken 100’s of pics.  Here is what I was able to snap before I dropped my phone, knocking it out of commission for the next few hours

How to change a motorcycle tire

Monday, July 20th, 2009

I found a great article on how to change a motorcycle tire:

http://www.clarity.net/~adam/tire-changing.html

That being said, this is probably best left to professionals with professional equipment, experience, the right tools and machines.  Its tough.  We have an Atlas TC411 machine at the shop and this proved to be useless for these motorcycle tires.  It had to be done by hand.  Well like with techniques shown in the article I linked to!

Retrocycle sells tires by Avon, Michellin, Pirelli, and many more.  If you don’t see what you want ask us and we’ll look it up for you.

BMW vs Harley

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Here is an excellent article written by a long long time Harley rider and his new BMW:

Who wins?  Well I think the answer really is its best to have one of each.

Antique Motorcycle Show in Rhinebeck, NY

Monday, June 8th, 2009

This weekend is the big show!  Retrocycle will be there peddling our goods, meeting customers and making some new ones.  It’ll be an experience for me: total antique bike overload.  I’ll be sure to bring a camera!

Clutch problems for small handed people

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

I often hear people looking for some way to reduce the clutch pressure on their Harley.  Especially, but not only, female riders with smaller hands.  There are a couple of ways to do this:

Check out these products from Amp Research called Amp Power Clutch

These work on Big Twin and Sportster models

I have heard these ergonomic brake and clutch levers help too

But before you do any of that: make sure your cable is lubed!  That was the first thing I did on my old BMW when I got it.  Not only does it help make sure the cables are less likely to break but it also reduces the pulling pressure needed since you’re not fighting a dry cable against a dry sheath.

Also check the adjustment of your clutch to make sure it is right.  It’ll make your ride a lot smoother too!

Anyone want to chime in with other ways to help?

Understanding Motorcycle Tire Sizes

Check out this article I wrote on motorcycle tire sizes

Le Pera seats

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

I’ve just discovered these seats.  Amazing quality and comfort in a motorcycle seat but with durability and good looks too.  Maybe you can have it all!

We list just a few of their styles but we can get any of their styles as well as custom and exotic materials.  See Le Pera Seats for Harley Motorcycles here.

Brake Lines for Old Harleys

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Brake lines wear out, get old, break, swell shut, etc and they need to  be replaced.  V-Twin sells brake lines to fit just about any old Harley.  The lengths and fittings are different on many different models so find one that is made for your bike.  After carefully restoring your sled there is no reason to skimp on brake hoses!  And it doesn’t matter how fast you can go if you can’t stop…

These Russel brake lines are stainless braded for durability and excellent feel, since they don’t expand as much under pressure.  See:
